How I Taught My Brother To Cook

Improvisational Tuscan-Provençal Cookery (and other good stuff to eat)

No, this is not a joke. I am very serious when I post this weeks recipe as a "Bowl Of Cold Cereal". You see, there are kids out there who don't even fix themselves a bowl of cereal. The reason is one of two; the child is too young or the parent is a panderer. If you are a parent and you generally make even the most simplest of food for your kid then I suggest you rethink your goals and begin to teach your kid responsibility and skills. Here is the perfect starter, the bowl of cereal.

If you have it in yourself, then click over to my blog of the week Pandering Parent... and read more on my rant of the pitfalls of the kid-centric society.

Very simply stated. Young children can be taught responsibilities in the simplest of things, as you stated in pouring a bowl of cereal. If the milk spills, so what, if the cereal spills, so what. It is a learning experience and the child will feel really good about doing this for him/her self. What a great way to teach some responsibility and at the same time raise the self-esteem of the child. Making PBJ sandwiches is another easy task. The list of simple things is long, if the parent cares enough to take the time to show the child.
