Improvisational Tuscan-Provençal Cookery (and other good stuff to eat)

loading a dishwasher - sure to create a tempest in a teapot

Q. Why can't women load dishwashers?

A. I guess because they assume that either their husbands will re-load correctly when they're not looking, or there are magical little robot elves built into the machinery which magically get stuff clean even when stuff is all piled on top of each other.

You got any better ideas?

Q. Why do men re-load the dishwasher after their wives load them.

A. So their wives won't complain that the dishwasher doesn't clean properly and lobby to get a new one.

This may sound harsh to all you women out there, but while there are course exceptions to everything, this is a fact based on much observed empirical data.

Well, Debbie certainly crams the dishwasher full. Ironically she tells me not to over fill the clothes washer or the clothes won't get clean. She rearranges what I have put in the dishwasher and proceeds to load it packed tight. She usually does this when I have left the kitchen. The dishwasher is another one of those battles of the sexes. Keep in mind that women who have men that cook and help in the kitchen should count their blessings.

I always count my blessings, as you well know. I must say, in defense of and for myself, that I do not "cram" the dishwasher full. I situate the items close, allowing enough space in-between to clean everything. I organize it all very well. AND to prove that I do a great job of it, when emptying the dishwasher every item will be clean, unlike when Patrick does this he will put away an item or two that will be greasy or have some caked on food particles! (Probably because he loads it full and then puts it on "China light" with no heat thinking he is saving on energy/utilities). So that in itself should tell you who is the better at loading the dishwasher. At least when I do it, the dishes are clean and sterilized! Hmph!

I love it! (Nancy hasn't seen this yet obviously)

Let's just say John is the King of the Kitchen and he is the best dishwasher loader in the world, even if he runs the dishwasher every time it has more that 3 dirty items in it... No complaints from me and I agree that I will never be able to out do him in this arena.. He owns it.

I suppose lucky for you Nancy. Patrick thinks because I do a better job at it (although he will not admit to it) I should always clean the kitchen (even weekdays, straight home from the office).......at least I can sleep at night knowing that the dishes are sterilized and put away clean.

Seriously, John is a much better housekeeper than I am in terms of keeping everything picked up. My specialty is the "deep clean". Doesn't happen often enough, but when it does, it's deep... right honey?

My horizon has already expanded to it's maximum of 3/4 of an acre. More than that and I might have to socialize. Parish the thought!

that's what I love about you, Patrick ... always ready to learn and grow and expand your horizons ... interestingly enough, southern France often uses pastas or rice (whereas the rest of France is usually potatoes)

ok. Then you have penne with the gravy from a southern France style beef pot roast. Tastes better now that I know what the hell it is.

well, it's more or less a stew, or just the process of braising some kind of meat in liquid (such as wine). It's just the southern French word for this type of braised meat dish
